Science pointers to Reality

Even at the elementary level, Science was teaching us more about Spirituality then we realized at the time we were being taught… but I guess we weren’t interested in either at that point.

Take Geometry, for instance. Remember the theorem we were taught at school? ‘The smallest arc of a circle is a straight line’. That, if you ask me, is the finest pointer to Zen.

In the circle of Life this moment is a straight line. If you can live this moment (the What Is) with acceptance, then the next moment and the next…you would find that you have lived the cycle of life effortlessly.

Take Chemistry. We were taught about static equilibrium and dynamic equilibrium.

Let’s make this simple. Let’s take a chemical reaction where Molecule A is combining with Molecule B to form Molecule C. At some point all Molecule A’s would have combined with Molecule B’s to form Molecule C’s and the reaction would reach a dead end. That is, the reaction would have reached a stable equilibrium.

Now let’s take another reaction. Here Molecule A is combining with Molecule B to form Molecule AB. However, in this case, Molecule AB is splitting back into Molecule A and Molecule B. At some point, the rate at which A and B are forming AB will balance the rate at which AB is splitting into A and B. In chemistry terms, reactants and products are being formed at such a rate that the concentration of neither changes. That is, the reaction does not die but continues in exquisite balance. This is called dynamic equilibrium.

In spirituality, a Master or a Sage is by definition Self-realized. However, to me, in chemistry terms, a Sage is someone in dynamic equilibrium: constantly alive, constantly active but yet incessantly in exquisite poise.

Take Physics. In analog days we would do experiments using physical instruments to take all types of measurements. However before we began each experiment we had to determine the ‘zero error’ of the instrument we were about to use. This was the error inherent in the instrument, the error it came with. We had to do this so that we could add or subtract the ‘zero error’ from our final readings to get an accurate reading from the experiment.

There are several conclusions from this: One, all of us come with a ‘zero error’. A wise man takes the ‘zero error’ into account to read an individual correctly. Two, perfection belongs only to the Perfect Being. All else come with a ‘zero error’. Three, in engineering terms the ‘zero error’ defines ‘tolerance’ – the allowable gap between perception and reality. If man did not have tolerance for ‘zero error’, while shaving he would agonize over equally leveling his two sideburns!

And we haven’t even begun talking of spiritual pointers from Black Holes, Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle and umpteen other examples from Quantum Physics…

The fact remains that every single thing in manifestation is a pointer to Reality.
